Salmon Leap – An eco-friendly BnB in Killarney

EDITORIAL NOTE

The Salmon Leap Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast, in Glenflesk, Killarney, is the perfect place to experience the famous Irish hospitality. This family owned, 300 year old farmhouse, situated only a 15 minutes drive southeast of Killarney city center, has been run as a BnB by the O’Donoghue family since the sixties and to this day maintains its tradition and authenticity.

Salmon Leap – An Eco-Friendly BnB in Killarney

Make yourself comfortable in one of the upstairs rooms, while enjoying a cup of tea and cookies overlooking the vibrant green pastures behind the property, where cattle indulge in the abundant grass. Alternatively, simply relax downstairs in the common sitting room, the soul of the house, where portraits, books and comfortable sofas turn the space into a welcoming homey countryside ambiance. By the way, this is the place where you will have the best Wi-Fi signal, in case you really need it.

Before going to sleep pamper yourself with the delicate aromas that emanate from the hand and body wash or the shampoo from Flourish Organics, a local producer of certified organic products. We were so impressed with the quality of the products and the effect on our skin and hair that we decided to pay Flourish Organics an unannounced Saturday visit before leaving Killarney.
After a good night in a comfortable bed, head down to the breakfast room, where you will be failtè (welcome in the Irish language) by typical Irish music playing on the background, while Sean brings your preferred breakfast, chosen the night before. A real treat! The cosy ambiance of the breakfast room provides the perfect opportunity for socializing with other travellers, who prefer the genuine experience of a B&B to the usual, often soulless, hotels, as this type of accommodation allows for a more personal and interactive experience with owners and other guests.

Sean O’Donoghue, second generation and present manager of the B&B, goes out of his way to make sure that his guests are fully satisfied. Proud of his country and heritage and a rich source of information, he will happily give you valuable tips and suggestions about local attractions and activities, such as the Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional Farms, Killarney National Park, among many other alternatives for nature and heritage tourism lovers.

We were drawn to the Salmon Leap Farmhouse by their eco-friendly classification and were happy to learn that this official title was just a formalization of their already long existing practices, as Sean explained, based on their eco-conscious philosophy which, from what we had the opportunity to observe during one week in Ireland, seems to be commonplace among locals.
After six delightful days at Salmon Leap Farmhouse, we said goodbye with certainty that we will return one day.

May the bliss be with you.

Happy travels!
