Beach Clean-up with Trash Hero Koh Lipe

This beach clean up with Trash Hero Koh Lipe happened as an unexpected surprise.

The main objective of our trip to Koh Lipe was for me to stamp my passport. This way, I could stay in Malaysia until the end of our Workaway experience.

We were advised to go to Koh Lipe as it was the closest destination out of Langkawi island.

Arriving at Pattay Beach, after a long trip, we knew we had made the right choice.

The hypnotising crystal clear, turquoise blue water and white sandy beach was all we looked for in an island.

Greenview Resort, where we were first staying, did not serve breakfast so we ended up having breakfast at Café Lipe. Here we met Darius, the owner, a Swiss environmentalist living on the island for more than ten years.

The most incredible thing is that Darius is the co-founder of Trash Hero, and NGO I had been reading about and meaning to contact. Small world!

Breakfast at Café Lipe was a healthy vegan’s wild dream. I woke up every morning craving for that big bowl of fruit, oats and lots of coconut cream. Not to mention the bio coffee grown in their property on the mainland!

After a few chats with Darius we decided to postpone our return to Langkawi island. We had two new missions: to film an interview with Darius and to participate on the beach clean up with Trash Hero Koh Lipe.

Every Monday, everyone is welcomed to join the weekly beach-clean-up organized by Trash Hero Koh Lipe. When we were there, the meeting point was at Pattaya Beach, at 10:00am, in the beginning of Walking Street. There are no fees involved.

The experience was quite amazing. It was a wonderful opportunity to spend a productive morning, meet interesting people and explore the beautiful surroundings of the island.

After the clean-up, all volunteers were treated to a group lunch offered by a local resort.

Watch the video above and let me know if you have ever participated in a beach clean up and how was your experience.
