COVID-19 – A blessing in disguise?

Is it possible that COVID-19 is a blessing in disguise?

It does seem to be bringing a new light for humanity and causing a change in consciousness.

Today is Labour Day, a day to celebrate the achievement of workers worldwide, but where did all this hard work take us?

** This post may raise controversy, however, its sole purpose is to open a positive note on the COVID-19 pandemic.

A NEW LIGHT

COVID-19 took us by surprise and shook our lives like nothing before.

While we may be fed up of news and information about the moment the world is living, drastic changes are occurring.

One way of looking at this pandemic is as a blessing in disguise, a unique opportunity to learn a few hard lessons.

LESSON 1 – LIFE IS HAPPENING NOW

Tomorrow may be a very different day. It may be the last day you live life, as you know it now.

It is no longer possible to sacrifice today in the name of future projects.

The way things stand now,  if we don’t take care of ourselves, our loved ones and society, TODAY, the future will not exist.

Let’s forget about the future and concentrate on living one day at a time.

LESSON 2 – MONEY HAS NO TRUE VALUE

COVID-19 has shown us that no matter how much money and material things we have today, tomorrow it may all disappear.

It also showed us that money does not buy the most precious commodities on the Planet: air.

Our health is the only true wealth we possess.

Luxuries are worthless when we are fighting for our life.

Gratitude, Compassion, and solidarity are the only things (feelings) that make us rich.

LESSON 3 – WE NEED CHANGE

Whether we have issues with relationships, addictions or faith, this moment is forcing us to face our problems and deal with them.

Being isolated from the noise of our daily lives is allowing us to look deeper and try to make sense of the way we were living our lives.

Let’s start working on ourselves and our relationships.

LESSON 4 – IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO BE HAPPY ALONE

Even for those of us who are presently spending this time, safe and happy in the comfort of their beautiful homes, there will come a time when sadness will take over.

I include myself in this group.

Knowing that our loved ones and so many people around the world are going through so much hardship, pain and hunger does not allow us to be truly happy and at peace.

A feeling of sadness and void will always be present as long as someone is suffering.

“We are all part of a constellation and never the light of one star will be more intense than the whole”

LESSON 5 – WE MUST DEAL WITH OUR PROBLEMS NOW

Our time here is scarce. We must use our time wisely and solve our problems now, not in the future, because, as already mentioned, tomorrow may never come.

If we can tell right from wrong, let’s allow ourselves to act upon what is right.

FINAL THOUGHTS

COVID-19 may well have come as a blessing in disguise.

We are learning to live in the moment.

Up until a few months ago we were no longer feeling, living, tasting and experiencing life.

Our focus was in the future: what to do next weekend, where to go for the holidays, the next material acquisition.

Most of us were underutilizing our lives.

COVID-19 is forcing us to stop living lives of no purpose and no clear direction.

We are having the unique opportunity to rescue human values that were lost and destroyed by our senseless lives.

Unlike what some say, this is not a war. Wars are fought between people with differences.

In a grander scheme of things, we are all together in a battle, against something bigger.

The real virus is not COVID -19, instead, it is the lifestyles fed by greed and ego.

The good news is that we are not alone. We are all in this together, regardless of gender, colour, religion, political views or any other label.

“The future is in our hands.”

A new and different society needs to emerge from this pandemic – a society where the focus is on family bonds, friendship and a sense of union and sharing.

Otherwise, what will happen if humankind if things don’t change?

I propose we celebrate Labour Day, not as a celebration of work as we know it, but a labour of love.

Let’s celebrate by being grateful for being alive, having food on the table, clothes to wear, shelter and the ability to help others.

At the end of the day, life has no meaning if we are alone.

Before closing this post, I want to express my deepest simpathy for all those who lost their lives in order for us to learn these lessons. May they rest in peace, in an altruist world. I also extend my condolences to those who lost their loved ones.
